Volunteer Opportunity for Villagers interested in Science Education

The program, named Wild About Science, is an attempt to get Fruitland Park Elementary school children excited about science.

The program follows the Florida State Science curriculum using a series of simple hands-on, discovery-based investigations.  Last year we conducted more 60 hands-on investigations with 115 2nd graders. This year we are expanding to include all the 3rd grade. To make the expansion work we need several more volunteers.

Commitment:

  • Wednesday mornings ( 1/mo or 2/mo or every week)
  • 8am to noon
  • From September 6 through end of May.

Each week is a hands-on project for the children.  A different question to be examined and experienced.  The first science classes will start on September 6.

This program is the only one of it’s kind in Lake County and the only one I know of in any on the surrounding counties.  This is an opportunity to change kids lives through science in the classroom.
